CALL for Submissions - SONGWRITERS (female lead vocals)
Tues. May 12th, 2009
[STATUS - Open Until August 15, 2009]
NOW SCREENING
ORIGINAL SONGS for
Erika Van Pelt's upcoming debut vocal CD.
Utilizing our exceptional production/engineering team
and our roster of incredible studio musicians, Erika
will be producing an original vocal CD for mainstream
distribution.
The Debut CD:
Erika is a songwriter herself. Only
a portion of her original material will be ready in time
for this project. The LP will consist of 12-14
original songs. If selected, your song(s) will be
recorded alongside Erika's original music. Erika's
project can be classified as "R&B, Pop and Jazz" or more
generally as "Adult Contemporary". She seeks songs
that are carried by melody and lyrics.
Her
musical influences include Aretha Franklin, Ella
Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Sarah Vaughn, Joss Stone,
Heather Headley, India Arie, Floetry, Nina Simone, Kim
Burrell, Erykah Badu, The Roots, Jill Scott, Lauryn
Hill, Common, Leela James, Mos Def, Soulive, Miles
Davis, Herbie Hancock, Chrisette Michele.
I Have Nothing
Respect
Son Of A Preacher Man
Lady Marmalade (Moulin Rouge)
The
finished LP will be released formally through a regional
marketing campaign, sponsored CD release party and
synchronized release through iTunes™,
CD Baby™,
Rhapsody™,
eTunes™,
Napster™,
TouchTunes™
Digital Jukeboxes and various regional retail/radio
outlets.
The Musicians:
The project will be cast from our large
pool of live performance and studio session players
(names and faces who have appeared on 100's of CD
releases). The studio ensemble will consist of
Piano, Bass, Drums, Guitar, Horns, Strings. Backup
Vocals and Supplemental percussion will be added as
necessary. This is an opportunity to have your
song recorded in a professional production environment,
resulting in a product which rivals any major label
release. We believe strongly in our chosen
artists/musicians or we wouldn't waste our time.
The Studio:
The project will be recorded in
conjunction with our studio partners at RPC Studios (see
the
recording studio tab), with Rob Pemberton acting as
the chief engineer for recording, mixing & mastering.
Your Songs:
If chosen, your original song(s) will be
arranged/recorded specifically for this project.
As the credited songwriter you will be eligible for all
relevant songwriter royalties.
FIRST
TIME SONGWRITERS WELCOME. We are screening for
more than just a great song. If you are produced
as an independent songwriter on one of our projects, we
will be entering into an agreement for royalties (it
doesn't matter how good your song is - if we get the
impression you are difficult to deal with we will pass
on your song because this is a business and
relationships matter). A "Song" consists of
"Lyrics & Melody" and we will accept submissions of ALL
types that communicate a song. We don't mind
reviewing an acapella rendition of something you
recorded on your PC headset, while you're snapping your
fingers and beat-boxing...HOWEVER, we request that you
contact us with your interest BEFORE submitting your
materials.
SUBMISSIONS:
Send your initial inquiry to
writers@fairhavenentertainment.com
At this time we are not charging a submission/screening
fee. You must follow our submission process or you
will not be considered. All submissions will be
screened and contacted at our convenience.
Follow our process. Be professional. If your
song is selected, you'll be in a position to earn a
lifetime of royalties and positive exposure for your
music.
We realize that it is expensive to develop a song so
that a listener eventually has the luxury of "pressing
play". Our aim is to give EVERY good song an
opportunity to be considered. If you have an
"unproduced song" (sheet music, a-capella
w/ lyrics, etc) we can only give your song the
appropriate consideration after we communicate.
OUR PROCESS IS IN PLACE TO PROTECT YOUR RIGHTS AND OURS.
NO PHONE CALLS PLEASE
UNSOLICITED EMAIL ATTACHMENTS WILL
IMMEDIATELY BE DELETED.
STEP
1 - Contact us with an explanation about the song you
wish to submit. If we are interested we will proceed
with step 2 (depending on the type of your
submission)...
STEP 2a - formal AUDIO SUBMISSIONS
Wait for our request - Be sure that your file is
ready for delivery in MP3, WAV or AIFF Format.
A-capella recordings must be accompanied by
lyrics and an explanation of what is represented
on the recording.
STEP 2b - formal SHEET MUSIC SUBMISSIONS
Wait for our request - Be sure that your sheet
music/lyric page is ready to be delivered in PDF
format. Notation Files must be formatted
for Finale, Sebilius or Enigma.
Please make sure the Verse, Chorus, Bridge & Tag
sections are clearly noted.
STEP
3 - LICENSING AGREEMENT
If your song is accepted for the project we will
present you with a standard form Statutory
Mechanical License Agreement. This agreement
will also include a provision for a percentage of all
Synchronization Rights and a modification for Pay
Per Play rights.
Note:
"Mechanical Royalties" are paid for "each copy of the
recording" that is sold at retail (this includes retail
CD's, digital downloads & Pay Per Play income).
"Synchronization Royalties" are paid for "placement of
the Master Recording" within a TV Show, Commercial or
Film. We/The publisher will own the Master
Recording (our version of your song) and You/Writer will
retain all copyrights to your song (lyrics & melody).
This is
not a contest. This is a subjective production and
licensing opportunity. Our decision is final and
we do not provide song critiques. All
submissions are kept in the strictest confidence. We are a
Non-Union company.
